On to Virginia

Our next stop in our travels was Williamsburg, Virginia. The colonial section of the town has been restored, with actors in character of the period just prior to the Revolutionary War. We met our youngest son, Cody, there and toured the old section. Lunch was eaten at one of the restored inns that existed in the 1700's. Most of the history I remember reading about in my younger years is from this area...what a neat place to see...Karen and I could visit here almost every year. The area around Williamsburg is so important to our country...Jamestown, Yorktown, Mt. Vernon, etc. are all within a short distance. Within a 100 mile radius are many of the most imfamous Civil War battlefields, including Richmond, Fredericksburg and Manassas. Washington, DC and Antietam Battlefield are close as well.

I didn't have another Williamsburg picture (the battery died
in the camera)...so I thought
I'd treat you to a pirate picture instead!

You may recall that Cody had graduated from Lineman's School last year. He figured out a way to repay the student loans...he got a job! After driving most of the way across country, he started work at a company in Virginia that does real lineman's work: installing power poles, upgrading power lines, storm repairs, etc. He took us to where his truck was parked and then over to his job site where a powerline upgrade was being done. I do like being around heavy equipment...Tim "the toolman" Taylor would have been sooo jealous!

One of the replacement poles. The new lines being installed
are the three large ones in center. The outboard three (smaller ones) will be
de-energized once the new lines are installed completely.

We traveled to Virginia Beach to eat at one of his favorite diners, the H2O Bar and Grill. That was some of the best food we've had in a looong time. Karen's order of crab legs was huge and Cody's and my cheeseburgers were cooked with a Guiness beer(mmmm) marinade! I explained to Cody that real men drink only dark beer...the near beers like Rain**r, Budw**ser, etc are for girly-men. Even former Gov. Schwarzenegger agrees. I think Cody will like dark beer!
